Create Hardwood Floor Transitions — Andy Bell of Handyman Matters shows us a couple simple steps for creating transitions from a room with hardwood floor through a doorway. He uses a saddle transition with a rounded edge and a flat top. He also adds a door sweep to keep out cold air. He sets the hardwood underneath the transition with liquid nails, tightly fits the grooves of the hardwood and then nails the surface down. He then sands the wood smooth, sets the transition and uses silicon to seal the gap between the floor and the transition.

Instead of breaking the family bank account by taking on an expensive and disruptive home renovation, there are budget-friendly options that will provide your family with a solid capital investment that is both beautiful and easy to clean. Homeowners looking to replace the current floor in their home must consider the cost of materials, installation, style and color selection, maintenance, health of the family, and ease of cleaning when deciding on a new floor.

Unlike new window treatments, changing accent pieces, or painting the walls of a room, new flooring can improve your family’s quality of life by removing toxic materials and replacing them with flooring that protects against allergens, built-up dust and grime, or injuries from falling. A new floor can profoundly transform the look and feel of a room. Understanding the various materials available on the market today helps homeowners make the best choice possible.

Color And Style

The color scheme of a room can greatly alter its feel.

Most homeowners cannot afford to replace both a floor and a room’s furnishings, which makes finding the correct color and style of flooring material so important. Vinyl, linoleum, and laminate flooring come in a variety of colors and styles. High gloss laminate flooring provides the added choice of whether or not to have beveled edges, and it comes in a wide variety of wood grains, including ash, walnut, oak, pine, cherry, birch, pecan, maple, and many more. Stone floors are generally available in earth tones, and tiles come in a variety of colors.

Initial Cost And Installation

Cost is often the deciding factor when it comes to renovations. Stone, tile, hardwood floors, and carpeting are at the high end of the price spectrum, as they require professional installation. At the opposite end of the cost comparison are the self-adhesive squares of linoleum found in many stores. While inexpensive and easy to install, these materials tend to be easily damaged and often curl and separate, leading to more maintenance and replacement costs later on. Laminate flooring is both durable and affordable, and homeowners can install these planks themselves without any special skills or tools. The planks are designed with locking mechanisms that simply snap into place as each one is laid down next to its neighbor. An entire room can be completed in only a few hours.

Maintenance And Cleaning

A discount price on expensive flooring does a family no good if the maintenance costs and cleaning requirements after installation are troublesome or unmanageable. Carpets are an excellent example of this problem. While it is simple enough to find carpets at a discount price, the low quality of the fibers indicate that the new carpet look and feel will quickly be but a memory as grease, grime, dust, dirt, hair, food and drink spills, pet messes, and regular wear and tear take their toll. Allergens are common residents of carpets and can result in respiratory problems for many family members. Even with professional cleaning, carpet maintenance needs make it an expensive choice when it comes to flooring options.

High gloss laminate flooring, on the other hand, is very easy to keep clean and requires no maintenance to speak of. Resistant to heavy traffic, sun bleaching, gouging, staining, and even burns, these planks provide years of beauty and healthful comfort to your home with minimal cost or effort. Dust, dirt, and spills are easy to wipe up, and even damaging materials such as cigarettes, heavy tools, and many chemicals are unable to mar the surface of this high-tech option. Once installed, this floor material continues to look and feel as good as new, providing your family with an affordable and easy to install floor that will showcase your home the way no other material can.

Health And Safety

The health and safety of your family and pets is yet another consideration when selecting a new floor. While stone and tile are beautiful, they can be dangerous when wet. Wooden floors look lovely, but are highly prone to gouging, sun bleaching, and splintering. Vinyl and linoleum squares can cause a tripping hazard and expose the subfloor in a relatively short period of time. Carpets can hold onto dirt and allergens for many years, in spite of regular vacuuming. High gloss laminate flooring, however, is made from kid and pet friendly materials that can even be purchased with anti-bacterial properties. Resistant to damage and easy to clean, your family is not exposed unnecessarily to harsh cleaners, sharp edges, or accumulated dirt or allergens.

High gloss laminate flooring provides the best of all worlds – it transforms a room beautifully, is easy to install and care for, and is still a budget-friendly renovation option for today’s homeowner.

(PRWeb UK) March 16, 2011

Coral Mezzanine has completed another prestigious mezzanine floor project for Edmund Bell Ltd on the new Kingsway Business Park in Rochdale.

The mezzanine floor was designed by Coral Mezzanine who worked closely with the client to provide a bespoke design solution which met their specific design brief and budget .The extra space created by the installation of a 725m? (7,800ft?) mezzanine floor has created extra space for offices, allowing Edmund Bell to continue with their planned expansion.

The mezzanine floor at Edmund Bell is the second high profile project completed by Coral Mezzanine on the Kingsway development. In 2008 they designed, manufactured and installed two mezzanine floors at Vindon Scientific, prior to their relocation. The main structure was a 2,570m?(28,000ft?) two tier mezzanine floor, with a secondary 200m? (2,100ft?) mezzanine floor, giving a combined increase of floor space of 2,770m (30,100 ft?) .

Coral Mezzanine was involved with this project from the outset, working closely with the client and the builders to ensure the optimum design was created to satisfy Vindon?s specification, time frame and budget. During both mezzanine floor installations Coral Mezzanine managed the projects in detail, acting also as principle contractor throughout the builds and ensuring the strictest adherence to CDM regulations.

John Aspinall, director at Coral Mezzanine says of the projects ?It was a privilege to work on another high profile project on Kingsway Business Park. Both were bespoke design solutions that enabled the client to maximise their space and resources. As mezzanine floor manufacturers, we were able to offer our clients a high degree of flexibility and adaptability so that any specification changes made through the projects had minimal disruption to the duration and cost of the overall projects?

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 10, 2012

After 3 months of nonstop construction noise and nerve-racking decision making, the renovation of Soo Photography?s studio is complete. New skylights, windows, and LED fixtures have transformed the dark studio into a sun-drenched haven perfect for photo shoots in San Jose. The elegant modern furniture, 2-way fireplace, and sensual wedding-themed design give the studio the feel of an upscale lounge.

?We spent 3 months dealing with the fine white dust from the drywall, the teeth-shattering jackhammering, and the noise from dawn till dusk. Renovation is super stressful, especially if, like me, you?re someone who is meticulous about the tiniest details: light, color, the shape of the tiles, design, ambiance, and on and on,? says Michael Soo. ?But the good news is that our studio renovation is finally complete! Champagne all around, please! Happy New Year!!!?

The new interior, designed by the Soo Photography team, is dappled with natural light from the 7 new skylights and many new windows. Over 60 new light fixtures, most of which use energy-efficient LED lights, brighten the space.

The interior has a wedding theme with a glamorous, contemporary, warm and extremely sexy feel. ?The furniture is modern and cozy, the perfect place for couples who are getting married to get comfortable, have some wine and cheese, and chat with us about their plans,? says the San Francisco photographer.

An elongated see-through fireplace is set into one wall. One side features beautifully curved tiles, bordered by wood. The other side has a large black granite surround, sitting on a sensual red wall.

?The see-through fireplace is fun because it?s essentially 2 fireplaces in one,? explains Soo.

The salon also received a facelift with new light fixtures, glass French doors and new flooring.

To make an appointment to visit the new studio, or for information about any of Soo Photography?s services, call Michael Soo at (408) 666-8455 or visit http://www.soophotography.com.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 04, 2011

Follow us on LinkedIn – The worldwide laminate flooring market registered a phenomenal change over the last few years, led by developments in printing technology, high resolution scanning and finishes that are mirror images of real wood/timber. The market has made significant inroads into the global floor coverings market worldwide over the last decade or so, taking over from other hard surface flooring varieties. The floor coverings industry is witnessing a continuous shift away from vinyl, hardwood and ceramic flooring to laminate flooring. Performance of laminate floorings was instrumental in underpinning strong growth in the overall market for hard surface floorings in the recent years. Increasing concern for environmental protection among consumers and rising preferences for high-end products are the main contributors to the above-average growth in the market. Laminates with close resemblance to wood, and advantageous features of durability, beauty and novel designs capable of replicating granite and stone, are creating myriad decorating possibilities for residential and commercial interiors. Residential replacements (including DIY.) and new housing starts constitute two of the largest end-use segments for laminate flooring. Laminate flooring usage in the DIY installation sector expanded appreciably in the recent past, and is likely to continue in the future. Accelerated growth is projected from the transportation sector, comprising of floor covering applications in operator compartments of industrial equipment.

Realistic finishes and designs have helped in keeping laminate flooring one step ahead of other conventional flooring options including timber and carpet. In addition, technological advancements, resistant surfaces, quick fixing and wide variety of designs have lent a big hand in popularizing laminate flooring. Laminate flooring designers are rolling out unique designs ranging from floral motifs to graffiti to logos and even maps. Handscraped and distressed design laminates are currently the most popular designs in the global laminates industry. The pored structure concrete look is another emerging laminate design, which is finding increasing number of takers. Akin to several other industries that embraced the ?Green? concept, the laminate floorings industry has also been investing in R&D for greener products, anticipating that the green movement might have a positive impact on consumers? flooring choices.

Laminate floorings market was severely challenged by the recent global financial crisis, resulting in decelerated growth and low sales. Since the laminate industry echoes the construction sector, a steep decline in commercial and residential construction sharply slowed down the laminate flooring industry during 2008 and 2009. In the milieu, product innovations and robust brand performance gained high credence, with a host of laminate producers investing heavily in the direction. The trend also cascaded down to the retailers, particularly in Europe, as was seen through their efforts for making the best of the slowdown period by remodeling stores and investing in brand promotions. Despite gradual market recovery, unit sales rebounded faster while laminate revenues remained flat in 2010, compared to the previous year(s). The lackluster performance was mainly on account of the drastic fall in wood prices and increasing popularity of luxury vinyl tiles.

Europe is the largest worldwide market for laminate floorings, with Western European markets of Germany, UK, France and Netherlands dominating the production scenario, as stated by the new research report on Laminate Floorings. Some of emerging markets in Eastern Europe that gained considerable traction in the last few years include Romania, Russia and Poland, among others. The Asian market, driven by rapidly developing markets of China and India, is forecast to surge ahead at a robust CAGR of over 12% through 2017. The Asian market is expected to tremendously benefit from China?s increasing strength as the world?s largest market for floor coverings (in terms of area). The region is also expected to gain from rapid development in some of the low cost, high volume markets of Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and others.

Key market participants profiled in the report include, Abet, Inc, Alsafloor SA, Armstrong World Industries, Inc, Balterio Laminate Flooring, Beaulieu International Group, BHK of America, Inc, Bruce Flooring, Egger Retail Products GmbH, Formica Corporation, Kaindl Flooring GmbH, Kronotex GmbH & Co KG, Mohawk Industries, Inc, Pfleiderer AG, Pergo AB, Roysol SA, Shaw Industries, Inc., Skema Srl., among several others.

The research report titled ?Laminate Flooring: A Global Strategic Business Report? announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of industry overview, trends and issues, growth drivers, competitive scenario, product overview, product launches, recent industry activity and profiles of market players worldwide. Analysis and overview is provided for major geographic markets such as US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan), Middle East, and Latin America.
